What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on the device used to access a website (e.g. a computer, mobile device, tablet, etc.) by websites you visit. Cookies are widely used in order to make websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the website that can be used to improve users browsing experience. To find out more about cookies, visit below links:

Cookies we use and why

As indicated in our cookies banner, we use two types of cookies:

1. Essential cookies

These are cookies that are necessary for the website to function by enabling certain functionalities (e.g. page navigation). Disabling these cookies may result to the website not properly functioning therefore these need to be enabled. We currently use the following:

NamePurpose Expires
PHPSESSIDThis cookie is used to track user sessionWhen browser closes
cc_cookieThis cookie is used to remember the user's choice about cookies on this website.6 months

2. Non-essential cookies

These are cookies that we use – subject to your consent - to collect aggregated statistics about your visit and are optional cookies, meaning that you can refuse to their use. We currently use only Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics as follows:

NamePurpose Expires
_gaThis cookie is used to distinguish users by Google Analtyics1 year
_ga_XP4T5TGK8VThis cookie is used to persist session state by Google Analytics1 year

Google Analytics is one of the most widespread and trusted analytics solutions on the web and we use it for helping us understand how the website is used and what we can do to improve users browsing experience. For more information on Google Analytics, see here.

How long cookies remain on my device?

This depends on whether it is a “session” or “persistent” cookie. A session cookie expires at the end of your web session, that is, when the web browser is closed. A persistent cookie is stored by your web browser and remains valid until the cookies’ set expiration date unless deleted earlier by you.  For the expiration dates of cookies we use, see previous section.

How can I change my cookie preferences?

You can manage and set cookies preferences at any time by clicking on the “Cookie settings” button on  this website.

Alternatively, most browsers allow some control of most cookies through the browser settings. However, as each browser is different, these controls vary by browser so it is important to check the configuration settings of the specific browser you are using. For more information, see the “Help” button on your browser. To find out how to manage cookies on popular browsers, see below links:

To opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites, visit http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
